This year’s Gala is one of CELEBRATION marking two special anniversaries:

The 15th Anniversary of Honda Development and Manufacturing of America in Indiana
The 35th Anniversary of the Japan-America Society of Indiana.

Honda’s arrival in Greensburg, Indiana, and the beginning of production in 2008 was transformational for the region and the state. During the past fifteen years, Honda’s commitment to the community has had a tremendous economic, educational, and cultural impact. We are excited to join Honda in celebrating this 15th Anniversary and great milestone!

We are honored to welcome Shuji Onizawa, Co-Leader, the Honda Indiana Auto Plant, Honda Development and Manufacturing of America, who will give special anniversary remarks.   

This year also marks the 35th Anniversary of the Japan-America Society of Indiana. Established in August 1988, for more than three decades, the Society has played an integral role in the phenomenal growth of the Indiana-Japan relationship. JASI has served as a leading resource on Japan in Indiana by facilitating cultural connections, economic partnerships, and educational exchange. Thanks to the great JASI family of members, we are now thirty-five years old. We look forward to celebrating our special birthday with you!

We are pleased to announce that this year’s JASI Bridge of Friendship honoree will be Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. Mitch Daniels was Governor of the State of Indiana from 2005 to 2013 and became President-Emeritus of Purdue University effective January 2023. As Governor, Mitch Daniels led the successful effort to win the Honda plant for Indiana, with Honda choosing to locate its assembly plant in Greensburg. Mitch was also instrumental in the founding of the Japan-America Society of Indiana. On the occasion of this joint anniversary celebration, we look forward to recognizing Mitch Daniels for his leadership in establishing both organizations.

The Japan-America Society of Indiana is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit cultural and educational organization and, on an ongoing basis, offers dedicated support to Japanese and American businesses, individuals, and communities throughout the state. With an annual attendance of 600, the much-anticipated celebration is one of the signature Japan events in the Midwest.
