2012 JET Memorial Invitation Program (JET-MIP)
for U.S. High School Students

The Japan Foundation Los Angeles Office (JFLA) has announced the 2012 JET Memorial Invitation Program (JET-MIP) for U.S. High School Students. The program will provide 11th or 12th grade high school students with the opportunity to go to Japan for two weeks as a group to meet Japanese students, experience Japanese culture, and study the language.

Itinerary: July 8 through July 26, 2012 (Staying in Japan July 11-July 24)

Eligibility:
(1) U.S. citizen
(2) Native language or main language used at home is not Japanese
(3) As of the program start date, must not have stayed in Japan for more than seven consecutive days within the past three years
(4) 11th or 12th grade high school student in the U.S. in 2011 (2011/2012 School Year)
(5) Have completed at least two years of Japanese-language courses at a high school in the U.S.
(6)Have equivalent academic score (Japanese GPA: 3.5 or higher; all-subject
GPA: 3.0 or higher)
(7) Must take Level 3 or Level 2 of the National Japanese Exam (NJE) *Please read the attached Program Announcement thoroughly.

Application Deadline: Must arrive by Friday, April 13th 2012 The application materials must be submitted by applicant’s Japanese Language Teacher. Each school may submit the application for only one student.

Application Screening: 4/16 (Mon) - 4/19 (Thu) (Tentative) Online Interview:
4/25 (Wed) - 4/30 (Mon) (Tentative) Result notification: Early May 2012 JFLA will notify the applicants of the result through their Japanese-language teachers.
