“How to Take Advantage of Federal, State and Local Incentives
during Tough Economic Times”

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan-America Society of Indiana (JASI) invite you to join us for a complimentary informational seminar entitled, “How to Take Advantage of Federal, State and Local Incentives during Tough Economic Times” on Thursday, October 29, 2009 in Indianapolis, Indiana

The United States Government has been aggressively introducing new incentives and government grants to stimulate the economy, generate employment, and initiate long term green economies and fuel efficiencies.  Many state and local incentive programs are also available to help promote this government agenda.  The incentives include not only cash grants, but also tax abatements and assistance in hiring and training employees.  Many Japanese companies may not be aware of these programs, and as a result, may not be taking full advantage of them.  Having knowledge about the various incentives available makes a material difference and may alleviate some of the pressure on Japanese transplants to obtain required cash as it is increasingly difficult to procure financing from banks or their own parent companies.

This seminar introduces federal incentive programs which may be applicable to many Japanese companies already doing business in the United States and provides tips on how to effectively find these funds and incentives.  Some case studies of successful projects with federal grants will also be introduced during this seminar, as well as types of federal grants which might be most relevant for Japanese companies with high levels of technology.

The following points will be covered:

  • Federal, state, and local grants, restrictions, and the application process
  • Case studies
  • Types of grants available to businesses which are owned by Japanese companies
  • Tools and methods for effectively finding appropriate grants
  • Basic application process
  • Some pitfalls in receiving governmental grants
